History of MMA - The Best of Mixed Martial Arts

The first precursors of MMA events dating from 648 BC and emerged in Greece. The Greeks created the Pankration, a combination of two Greek words: pan, which means everything or more, and kratos, which means strength. The sport, which was a mixture of boxing and wrestling, soon became the most popular event of the Olympics. This is the first record of the existence of something similar to the MMA.

The decline of Pankration coincided with the rise of the Roman Empire. The mixt fight is no longer so popular, giving rise to sports such as boxing and wrestling, which were more widespread in the West.

In 1925 the fighting with mixture of different martial arts returned to the world stage thanks to a family of Brazilians. The history of modern MMA is closely linked to the history of the Gracie family. Carlos Gracie learned to fight with judo Mitsuyo Maeda, a Japanese living in the same region. Later Carlos taught the sport to their brothers and slowly was adapting the rules and blows the same, creating the Brazilian jiu-jítsu.

Once Carlos opened an academy in Rio de Janeiro. In order to draw attention to it, he invented the "Gracie Challenge," which challenged other fighters. These challenges that the Gracies used to promote their fight, showing that they could defeat any adversary, no matter who practise the martial art. The fighting became known as All Valley.

The struggles were gaining popularity as now being conducted at football matches. The idea was to show that they could defeat any enemy, whatever be their physical size. The Gracies were so happy in its "contract" that ultimately leading to their art to the United States, where up an academy and began to teach the Brazilian jiu-jítsu.

Since then, major events have become organized. Since then, major events have become organized.
